RECOVERED...

Michigan Mike's

'Bluegrass Circle' Street Sign

Way back in March of 1998, my 'Bluegrass Circle' street sign was nabbed from my home after the band Runaway Truck Ramp took a set-break there. Shortly thereafter, I received poloroids of the sign in action from all over the nation... It went on their tour.

I managed to recover my coveted sign for the brief period of about 30 minutes at the last Telluwhut! Festival, but once again it was snatched by an unknown assailant. I later learned that it was once again in RTR's possession (perhaps after changing hands several times).

In early August of 1999 I put on 'The Nederland Music and Arts Festival,' which featured many local and national bluegrass and jazz artists. I had written into RTR's contract that they would not get paid for their performance until I got my sign back. Hearing this, the Yonder Mountain boys 'ganked' the sign from the Truck-Rampers, once again taking it on tour all over. (I did end up paying RTR... but only cuz I'm a nice guy.)

Rumor has/had it that the Leftover Salmon guys were next in possession. The sign made it into their January 2000 mailer, where Yogi Bear is pictured holding it. (See photo on left.)

I personally spotted the sign on Thursday, 11/18/99 at The Boulder Theater when YMSB, Sally VanMeter, Nick Forester, Pete Wernick, Tony Furtado and The Sugarloaf String Band took the stage. It was quite a show, but I was in no condition to snake up on stage and get the sign back.

That was the last I had seen of the now-famous 'Bluegrass Circle' street sign... until March 1st, 2000, when I was talking to Patrick Latella on the phone about some gigs and he mentioned that he saw my plea for the safe return of the sign on the internet. He informed me that he and Dave 'The Pump' Solzberg made a daring recovery of the metallic green gem and that he indeed had it safely for me.

Many thanks go out to Patrick and Pump!!!

Hey Mike-I saw your sign with the Yonder BOys here in San Francisco at The Conneticut Yankee a couple weeks ago. Just thought youd like to know.
